Improper storage or unsuitable substrate can be the source of problems.
Considering that we spend almost a third of our lives sleeping in a cozy bed, taking care of our mattress is extremely important. However, more often than not, we simply forget about it. It “hides” behind bedding, bright bedspread and a bunch of cozy pillows. And anyway, what will happen to it? Surely everything is fine as it is. Unfortunately, this is far from the truth. Lack of any care, as well as the wrong order of actions, significantly reduce the quality of the mattress. Here are the most common mistakes.
1. Lack of a mattress cover
It protects against sweat, accidentally spilled coffee and other stains that can cause bacteria and even mold to settle in the mattress. In addition, the mattress cover protects your skin from allergic reactions to dust mites that lurk inside the mattress. Nowadays, it is easy to find covers for every taste, including waterproof and breathable.
2. Immovable position
Sleep Foundation experts note that the parts of the mattress that are under the most pressure (usually the areas where the shoulders and hips come into contact) “sag” much sooner than other areas. The problem can be solved by turning the mattress regularly. According to experts, this will extend the life of the mattress by a year or more.
Experts advise to turn the models made of viscoelastic polyurethane foam and latex, as well as spring mattresses 1-2 times a year. With one-sided models you can do the following: turn the upper part of the mattress down to the foot of the bed. The working method of turning the mattress is most often specified in the instructions for it.
The only type of mattresses that can not be turned over are zone mattresses. Such products are originally designed for different loads in different zones, so you should not worry about them.
