Are your glasses fogging up? Here’s how you can fight it

By improvised means
The advantage of antifog is in its safety for lenses. If you want to use an alternative, first check if your glasses have a special coating (such as oleophobic or UV protection) that can be affected by home remedies. These features are usually listed on the lens manufacturer’s website.

If you can’t find any restrictions, treat the glasses with regular liquid soap, mild shampoo or dishwashing detergent. Apply a couple drops to the cleaned lenses and use a cotton pad to spread a thin layer. Leave the glasses to dry completely, after which wipe them well with a soft, lint-free cloth. Instead of liquid soap, you can use a bar of solid soap. Rub it on the glasses and then polish them thoroughly with a cloth.

For the best result, the treatment will also have to be repeated before each time you leave the house.

What means it is better not to use
The Internet often advises and other available options to replace special means. Toothpaste, glycerin and car window cleaning spray are the most frequently mentioned. We wouldn’t recommend using anything on this list. Toothpaste has abrasives that can easily scratch the lenses, glycerin is difficult to spread evenly and without streaks on the glass, and car sprays are usually too aggressive.

What else can help
These tips are useful for prevention.
– Don’t touch your lenses. Greasy fingerprints and other contaminants increase the formation of condensation, so try to touch the glasses less often and do not forget to regularly wipe your glasses with special wipes. But you should not use your own clothes or ordinary towels for this purpose. – Coarse fibers can damage the lenses.
– Keep your glasses only in a case. Moisture droplets cling to small scratches, so be sure to use a protective accessory.
– Slide your glasses up on your nose. The closer the glasses are to your face, the more they fog up. Slide the glasses a little farther back on your nose to allow air to circulate freely. If they fall down in this position, look for frames that will hold them more securely.
