A rendering of a full-scale version of an underwater training center for astronauts by Space Architects has been published online.
Space agencies regularly immerse astronauts in spacesuits in swimming pools so they can learn to perform tasks in an environment that resembles outer space. Danish company SAGA Space Architects has designed its own version of the UHAB underwater training center. It simulates an extraterrestrial habitat that astronauts could one day live in.
The UHAB (Underwater HABitat, Russian for underwater habitat) should eventually accommodate up to four astronaut trainees for more than a month at a time. It will remain anchored on the seafloor for the entire period.
